CANADIAN TRADEMARK LAWYER:
"Why Register a Trademark?"
Registration of a Canadian trademark gives the owner of the registration the exclusive right to the use of the trademark throughout Canada in respect of the wares and services which are the subject of the registration.
The owner of a registered mark may prevent the use of the mark by others who sell, distribute or advertise wares or services in association with a confusing trademark or tradename.
In addition, the owner of a registered trademark may prevent the unauthorized use of the registered trademark in a manner that is likely to have the effect of depreciating the value of the goodwill attached thereto.
Canadian trademarks may be registered at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, located in Ottawa/Gatineau.
